Middlesbrough will face serious competition from Burnley for Assombalonga after reports suggest they are ready to make a second bid for the DR Congo worldwide following an £8m rejection from Forest.

Burnley have made an £8m offer for Nottingham Forest striker Britt Assombalonga, Sky sources understand.

The 24-year-old's future at the club has been under a lot of speculation over the past month as Assombalonga attracts more and more interest from clubs elsewhere in England.

Gray scored ten goals in 36 appearances for the Clarets last year, but Burnley are refusing to pay him £70k a week - Gray has just one year left on his current contract.

While Dyche moved on to Burnley after leaving Vicarage Road Assombalonga moved to Peterborough, where 33 goals in 58 games earned a £5.5million move to Forest in August 2014.

'I don't want Britt to go anywhere, said Warburton.

Assombalonga has also been linked with Middlesbrough, as well as newly-promoted Huddersfield Town, after proving his fitness towards the end of last season, following what was a potentially career-threatening knee injury, hitting 14 goals last term as Forest staved off the drop. However, the news of Forest's hefty price tag may be a deterrent to clubs fighting for the signing.

"He had to overcome a very hard injury and has shown great character to do so". It is clear. He is working hard on the training ground. The new owners have come in and have been so supportive so far.
