Manchester City complete the signing of Brazil star Douglas Luiz on five-year deal

Manchester City has announced the signing of 19-year-old midfielder Douglas Luiz from Brazilian club Vasco da Gama.

Luiz becomes the fourth Man City signing of the summer following the arrivals of Kyle Walker, Bernardo Silva and Ederson.

The 19-year-old Samba star penned a five-year deal after completing his medical this week in an initial fee thought to be around £10.7million.

The Brazilian Under-20 global is understood to prefer a role as a defensive midfielder, and City have secured the talented youngster for a reported fee of £10m.

Midfielders Fernandinho and Fernando will be expected to mentor the youngster, while striker Gabriel Jesus will also be on hand to help Douglas settle into life in Manchester.

Director of Football at City, Txiki Begiristain, said: "We are pleased to welcome Douglas".

The loan move is not official, with Manchester City saying they will make a statement on his immediate future in the coming days.

City are understood to have spent in the region of £10million to lure Douglas Luiz to the Etihad Stadium, but it would appear that he won't go directly into the first-team picture and will instead start out with the club's development team.

According to media reports in Brazil, the City paid 12 million euros ($13.76 million) for the teenager, making the deal the most expensive in Vasco's history.
