Speaking at the weekend press conference about the IIFA Awards in NY, the 24-year-old actress said that she has not been a part of the IIFA till today and now feels like everything happens for a reason. Neerja and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil won three awards each.

Hosted by Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan and producer-director Karan Johar, the ceremony, which celebrates the achievements of Bollywood in different cities across the world, is a three-day extravaganza that started from July 13 and is being held at the iconic MetLife Stadium in NY.

The hosts for the ceremony were Saif Ali Khan and Johar, who had the audience in splits with their amusing one-liners and banter.

Alia Bhatt's debut in IIFA saw her performing to a medley of hit songs from her movies.

It is an open secret now that the award of the Best Actor is grabbed by none other than Shahid Kapoor for "Udta Punjab" in which he portrayed the character of a drug abusing rock star. Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury got the award for Best Director for his film Pink.

Actress Taapsee Pannu, who played a pivotal role in Pink, was named the Woman Of The Year, while music maestro A.R. Rahman was given a Special Award in recognition of his contribution to film music since 25 years at the event, which was largely attended by the NRI commnity here.

The Best Performance in a Negative Role title went to Jim Sarbh for Neerja.

Disha Patani who played the role of Dhoni's girlfriend in MS Dhoni: The Untold Story was named best debut actor female.
