M1's profit falls 17.6% year-on-year for first half of 2017

Singapore-based telecom company, M1 said Tuesday its net profit for the second quarter fell 20.8% from a year earlier as higher depreciation and interest expenses weighed on earnings.

Revenue in the second quarter was up 4.7% to S$251.6 million from S$240.4 million in the year-ago quarter. The company said in a media release that it estimates a decline in net profit after tax for the whole of this year.

M1 has reported a 17.6 percent decline in net profit for the first half of 2017 to S$68.8 million (US$50.24 million), as it prepares to face increased market competition when Singapore's fourth telco begins operations. Revenue in this area increased by 22.3 per cent year-on-year to S$61.2 million.
