Shares of Sprint Corp. were up more than 3% in premarket trade on Tuesday after the wireless company reported earnings for its fiscal first quarter that were above Wall Street expectations. One week after that move, Virgin Mobile, Sprint's prepaid offspring, doubled down with a year of service for $1 and a decision to offer only Apple iPhones.

It now expects adjusted Ebitda to be between $10.8 billion to $11.2 billion for fiscal 2017, up from $10.7 billion to $11.2 billion.

Operations had generated $1.2 billion in profits but much of that was consumed by interest expenses and other costs not directly related to running the company.
