Morata confident of coping with pressure from fans, coaches, and Chelsea record transfer fee

Alvaro Morata has told Marca that he has "the personality" to live up to being Chelsea's club-record signing and answer the critics who he says "are already killing me" by scoring "more than 20 goals".

Speaking of his missed penalty against Arsenal in the Community Shield match last weekend, the Spaniard said: "I have only two pre-season games, 15 official minutes and a missed penalty. and they're already killing me, so I know what's ahead".

"I don't like to talk about players who are not here but the only thing I can tell you [is that] in January, the Costa situation was very clear", he said.

The striker managed 15 minutes from the bench near the end of the game, followed by a miss from the penalty spot as Arsenal ran out winners and Morata was criticised in some quarters. And it's something that motivates me and makes me work harder every day, to spend an hour every day in training. I know that twice as many people are looking at me now.

The striker swapped Real Madrid for the Stamford Bridge side after a summer of interest in him, with Manchester United also pursuing a deal for the Spain worldwide.
