These changes, which are made possible by starting the season a week earlier in October than in years past, ostensibly aim to disincentivize teams from resting healthy players.

The rules are expected to be enacted for the 2017-18 season, and there will be repercussions for teams that do not follow them.

That's just a bad look for the National Basketball Association, and that may be the driving force behind any push to cut down on the number of nights being taken off by key players. "I don't think the fan benefits by requiring that player to play and then that player getting injured".

The specifics of the rules and the consequences remain unknown at this point, but enforcing any rules regarding the resting of a healthy player might be hard.
