Both Democrats and Republicans in Congress have earned the ire of most Americans, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS, with almost seven in 10 (68%) judging the Republican Congress a failure so far after last month's repeal and replace plan died in the Senate. "No Republican president would wage war on the Republican Majority Leader of the United States Senate".

But GOP support has tanked since February, when an unusually high 50 percent of the party approved of Congress.

Since January 2015, Republicans have controlled Congress.

Republican respondents were evenly split on their party's steering of both chambers, with 45 percent deeming the GOP majority a success and 45 percent viewing them as an overall failure. The survey found that 68 percent of national adults believed that the GOP Congress had been a failure while only 24 percent deemed the majority a success. Twenty-six percent of respondents attributed the gridlock to President Donald Trump's leadership while 25 percent laid the blame on Democratic opposition. The drop is likely due to the Republicans' failure to repeal and replace Obamacare before going on August recess as the survey was conducted August 2-6th. At a Thursday press availability, Trump said he was "very disappointed" with McConnell and suggested he should step aside from his leadership post if other parts of the GOP agenda don't get passed.

MSNBC host Joe Scarborough said Friday that President Donald Trump's war of words with Republican Senators like Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) could be proof he's thinking of leaving the Republican Party and becoming an independent.

Still, just a third (33%) say Obamacare should be repealed completely, regardless of whether it is replaced.

When asked about the 2010 health care law, a slim majority of Americans (51%) say they oppose the legislation vs. 42% of Americans who favor the bill.
