President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki on Thursday, August 10, 2017, sacked 98 of his legislative aides.

He said while some of the affected persons were sacked, some were redeployed back to the National Assembly where they left on secondment.

Addressing journalists at the National Assembly, Saraki's spokesman, Yusuph Olaniyonu said the exercise was necessitated by the need to select the best hands for the job.

According to the aide, Arthur Ndiwe, the director of protocol, and Folashade Adigun, head of administration, were among those laid off.

"It is an exercise that has now been concluded and we can determine who is good enough to continue, who needs to give way and who may likely come in".

Arsenal's Arsene Wenger not 'super optimistic' on Alexis Sanchez stay
Asked if any bids had been lodged for Sanchez, the Frenchman replied: "I can't tell you that at the moment". I think he will not play at Stoke, yes".

"This is important for the efficiency of the office".

"It is good for a public official like the Senate President to have given everybody the opportunity to serve, the last 26 months are good enough to determine who would fits into his agenda for the next 22 months of the life span of this Senate", Olaniyonu added.

"That is the summary of the whole exercise and it is possible that a new set of people will be joining the exercise".

Meanwhile, Saraki yesterday announced a downsizing of his official aides. He said the action was done to reposition his office for a stronger and efficient service delivery.

"It is has been known for four months that a comprehensive staff review was going on in the office of the senate president".

Western Force facing Super Rugby axe
Clyne added that the decision to axe the Force was not an indication that the ARU was abandonning the game in Western Australia. We have staff in Perth and are in regular contact with all contracted players at the Force and their respective agents.

He added, "The restructuring that has just taken place on the workforce in the Office of the Senate President being reported as mass sacking in the media was meant to reposition the office for service delivery, the outcome of which has affected three categories of members of staff in different ways".

The exact number of those affected was not disclosed as Olaniyonu asked to be given time to establish the figure.

The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami explained that the policy also contained the needed professional guidance for all justice sector institutions in the discharge of their duties and attainment of an effective and efficient administration of justice.

Saraki, who was represented by Senator David Umaru, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, said investors would only invest in an environment where there was a functional judicial system. It was at the discretion of the Senate president.
