Former Hizbul Mujahideen commander Zakir Musa has been cornered by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Tral district, media reports said. The village is close to the spot where Hizbul chief Burhani Wani was killed by the Army a year ago.

Musa is believed to have gone into hiding after the security forces closed in on him, the national news channel reported.

The top intelligence sources, confirmed that Zakir Musa and his aide, who has formed his own outfit with the help of al-Qaida called Ansar Ghazwatul Hind distancing from Hizbul Mujahedeen outfit, were reportedly present in the house at Noorpora which was zeroed in by the security forces but the duo managed their escape from the village.

People have blocked roads making it hard for security forces to proceed with their operation.

The al Qaeda's claims of making inroads in Kashmir could potentially open a new front in the valley, which is witnessing a spurt in militant activities and civilian protests since the killing of Hizbul commander Burhan Wani a year ago.

The siege was followed by intense clashes between civilian protesters and forces.

Several youth tried to take out a protest rally to mourn the militant deaths in Gulab Bagh area of Tral couple of days back.
