Iran says its missile programme is for defensive purposes only

The US legislation would impose mandatory penalties on people involved in Iran's ballistic missile program and anyone who does business with them.

State-run IRNA news agency reported that 247 lawmakers attended the vote session, with 240 approving the spending plan and one lawmaker abstaining.

"The world may be stable only on the basis of equal rights of the countries", he continued, but this does not exempt countries from their obligations for the global community.

Iranian officials deem the anti-Iran sanctions over its ballistic missile program and alleged "support for terrorism" in violation of the spirit, if not the letter, of the JCPOA. In response to this, Iran complained to the UN Security Council about the USA sanctions and accused Washington of breaching the nuclear deal.

Aiming Missiles to Fall Near Guam, North Korea's Kim Takes New Risk
The US President vowed North Korea would be met with " fire and fury " if the hermit state dares to launch an attack. Intercepting a missile over the open ocean has the added benefit of not being a direct attack on North Korea itself.

Tehran says the measures violate a 2015 deal with world powers that eased sanctions in exchange for curbs on its nuclear programme.

After Larijani announced the vote results, lawmakers shouted: "Death to America".

The bill is "very smart particularly because it doesn't violate the nuclear deal and doesn't allow the other side to make excuses", he added.

"The bill is backed by the foreign ministry and the government and is part of measures by the JCPOA supervision committee to confront the recent US Congress law", deputy foreign minister Abbas Araghchi.

While gold, a safe-haven favorite, pared some gains, it was last up 1.2 percent, at around its highest since mid-June. Perrigo was up 9.5 percent after the company raised its full-year adjusted earnings forecast.

"Iran boasts potential and actual options to confront hostile U.S. actions".

The Iranian plan would require Iran's government and armed forces to draw up a strategy to counter United States violations of human rights around the world and to support Iranian bodies and individuals affected by U.S. sanctions.

They are obliged to, within a period of six months following the ratification of the bill, devise a comprehensive strategic plan to counter the U.S. threats.

The bill also mandates the economy ministry to prioritise deals with countries and companies that ignore financial and military sanctions on Iran.
