Kisner survives wild finish to take PGA lead

Stricker: Mickelson needs to 'show me something' to earn spot on Presidents Cup team

Stricker: Mickelson needs to 'show me something' to earn spot on Presidents Cup team

After a week off, McIlroy plans to play in all four FedEx Cup play-off events as he attempts to retain the title - and 10million USA dollar bonus (£7.7m) - he won previous year. His driver was like a hacked GPS system. If he accomplishes that - or, better yet, goes three for three - that would go a long way toward propelling him to a third round in the 60s.

Jason Day threw away his chance of a second US PGA title with "one insane decision" according to six-time major victor Nick Faldo. The former University of Georgia golfer from SC has two PGA Tour victories, including one earlier this year at the Colonial. He could have just as easily been talking about the final stretch at Quail Hollow.

But more importantly, he got to sleep in this morning.

Kisner looked to be in command of the tournament after taking a two-shot lead with birdies on the 14th and 15th, only to pull his second shot to the 16th into the water. If he can make hay there and par the rest, he reasoned, he would have a chance to upset the field.

Asked how far away he was from his best after a year which has included injury, a change of equipment, his wedding and a split from long-term caddie JP Fitzgerald, McIlroy simply replied: "Looking forward to 2018". The 33-year-old Shawnee Heights graduate is one of only six players this week to post two scores in the 60s. The course gave many players fits.

Jose Mourinho hints at central midfield role for Victor Lindelöf
There are not many - there are just a couple - but I thought that", Mourinho told United's official website. They didn't sell, like some were expecting, the top players - (Mesut) Ozil, Alexis (Sanchez).

"Those are my holes to score well", Kisner said.

This year's edition of the US PGA Championship has been a war of attrition for players and viewers alike. "Hitting it in the fairway a lot, which is huge around here". His drive on the par-5 10th sliced so far right that he had to drop in a patch of pine straw to take relief from a cart path.

Among the Canadian golf legends to win the PGA Seniors' Championship of Canada are Stan Leonard, Moe Norman - who won a record seven straight years from 1979-1985 - Bob Panasik, Al Balding - who wowed the golf world by winning at age 76 in 2000 - and Rutledge.

He finished the day with three birdies, four bogeys and two double bogeys but what hurt even more was the small tap- ins that did not fall and the chips that were way below his standards.

He at least salvaged the round with two late birdies for another 1-over 72.

"I think it's really beneficial for me here, unlike other majors (courses) that we play once every five years or something", Kisner said.

A "C-game" effort Saturday in the third round of the PGA Championship was enough to catapult former University of Alabama star Justin Thomas three spots up the leaderboard and within striking distance to capture his first major championship. "That's kind of been our goal for the year". So I hit a 6-iron. While Kisner loves putting on the Bermuda greens, he doesn't exactly relish hitting into them. "I'd say if I shoot two 67s over the weekend, I'm going to have a really good chance". "(Majors) are not a whole lot of fun unless everything is working out for you. "If you can get done it is definitely worth it to do it". With the opportunity to create serious breathing room had he simply stayed out of trouble, Kisner instead doubled the 16th and bogeyed the 18th.

Jason Day remembers hustling to finish rounds of golf in the dark as a kid. Too many times you get a club in your hand and think, 'Oh, OK, I can be aggressive'. "I was just anxious about trying to get around the course and play better than the leaderboard". If that's more the mindset, things aren't so hard to look at out there.

Once again, despite the game's problematic requirements in terms of land and equipment, golf has proven capable of traveling around the world and then some. It would be awesome to take home the Wanamaker Trophy.
