Nothing to Hide 2.0 forum suspended after chaos erupts at venue

A forum led by former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, who is seeking to oust the government, descended into violence Sunday (Aug 13) as participants threw shoes and chairs and set off flares.

The forum was organised by Bersatu Youth (Armada) as a platform for the former prime minister and Prime Minister Najib Razak to debate issues surrounding 1Malaysia Development Berhad.

"Even if the irresponsible party had wanted to use such a tactic to prevent us from marching forward, we will insist and continue to hold forums", Syed Saddiq said when addressing the media after the violent incident took place. Two flares were ignited in the hall.

"There are a few people who have been detained for further investigation", Haniff said, adding that Bersatu will lodge a report to assist in the investigations.

Bruno Mars Donates $1 Million to Flint Water Crisis Victims
The said organization's role is dealing with the issues brought on by the water crisis. "Now cars are made in Mexico, and you can't drink the water in Flint".

Syed Saddiq slammed the disruption as "sabotage", saying officials from Mahathir's Bersatu party had earlier noticed a group of youths wearing T-shirts with fake logos of Bersatu's youth wing.

"But we will never be cowed by these cowards". "It's a cowardly act".

It was not clear who was behind the violence but it illustrates that political tensions are rising before elections which Najib must call by mid-2018, and that Mahathir is viewed as a potent threat.

Mahathir has been spearheading calls for Najib to resign over a multibillion-dollar financial scandal in indebted state fund 1MDB, which is being investigated in several countries for money laundering.

Najib, whose United Malays National Organisation has been in power at the head of a coalition since independence in 1957, and 1MDB deny wrongdoing.

Mahathir came out of retirement to set up Bersatu past year and was recently appointed chairman of a fractured opposition coalition.

In fact, Tun Mahathir has set aside his past with Anwar.
