The governor of Guam said on Wednesday (Aug 9) North Korea's warning of a possible missile strike on the US Pacific territory was no threat and the island was prepared for "any eventuality", with defences strategically placed to protect its people. The place fills up fast with locals and military personnel, "kind of a little bit of everything", says Monique Genereux, who opened the bar and restaurant a few years ago.

The strip of land in the western Pacific Ocean is roughly the size of Chicago, and just 4 miles (6 km) wide at its narrowest point.

It was not the first time Guam has been put on notice and similar threats made since 2013 led to the US military permanently deploying a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) interceptor system on the tiny island.

North Korean tensions put Americans on tiny Guam in crosshairs
The forum members also urged North Korea to comply with obligations stated in the United Nations Security Council resolutions. It's located 2,100 miles south of North Korea and 4,000 miles west of Hawaii.

The Department of Defense on August 11 published video showing the take-off on a training mission of a B-1 bomber from Andersen Air Force Base in Guam. If carried out, it would be its most provocative missile launch to date. The military plans to move thousands of U.S. Marines to Guam from Okinawa in southern Japan.

Andersen Air Force Base houses a Navy helicopter squadron and Air Force bombers that rotate to Guam from the US mainland, including the B-2 stealth bomber, B-1 and B-52.

Baumgartner, a supervisor at a high-end clothing store, said she was confident US forces on the island's two bases were ready to intervene, and she bore no grudges about that military presence making Guam a North Korean target.

Trump makes false claims about U.S. nuclear arsenal
However, the ProgressPolls' Twitter account is followed by an overwhelming majority of Trump supporters as well as conservatives. Several Twitter users have over the last 24 hours reported Trump's tweet , which threatened violence against North Korea .

Jacob Martinez, 29, a purchasing officer at a high-end hotel, said he was frustrated that Guam, an island smaller than Singapore and about 11,000 km away from the US mainland, might be dragged into a major conflict. They threatened USA, other countries, and they threaten Guam. Guam was also a refueling and transfer spot for people heading to Southeast Asia, and many refugees fleeing Saigon were evacuated through Guam. The U.S. took back control of Guam on July 21, 1944. North Korea said a day earlier that it would create an "enveloping fire" around Guam. The North said the plan, which involves the missiles hitting waters 19 to 25 miles (30 to 40 kilometres) from the island, could be sent to leader Kim Jong Un for approval within a week or so.

"North Korea's most recent threat to target Guam is risky and it further heightens tensions in our region", Bordallo said.
