A separate Labor Department report showed initial claims for state unemployment benefits rose 3000 to a seasonally adjusted 244,000 for the week ended August 5. "The pot is on the stove boiling but no inflation steam is coming out". While the German DAX Index has edged down by 0.1 percent, the French CAC 40 Index and the U.K.'s FTSE 100 Index are both down by 1 percent.
