Citing Rajpur village Sarpanch Pati Sevaram Sahu, ANI reported on Friday that nearly 200 cows have died in the shelter due to starvation over the past two days.

A government cattle shelter in Chhattisgarh turned into a death trap after nearly 200 cows died due to starvation in the last two days, a village head alleged.

The fresh deaths were also allegedly caused due to starvation and lack of proper care.

However, Verma dusted off the allegations stating that he had been seeking financial support for the shelter from the state government for the past two years but nothing worked out.

But according to a team of five veterinary doctors from the state the cows didn't die because of wall collapse, but due to lack of fodder and water.

When he closely inspected the matter, found that Harish was burying the dead cows' after hiding it from the villagers.

While the Gau Seva Ayog would register a case in this regard, the malaise has been laid bare in the Chhattisgarh cow shelter deaths episode.

The incident happened in Rajpur village of Chattisgarh's Durg district and the district administration learnt about the cow deaths through the complaints lodged by the local villagers.
