Japan US conduct live-fire drill amid regional tension

The United States' most senior military officer on Friday said North Korea understands that an any attack on Japan is equal to one on the U.S. itself - and vice versa.

Mattis reaffirmed the ironclad USA commitment to defend South Korea and emphasized the military's role in providing extended deterrence, she added, and expressed his commitment to the ongoing diplomatic effort to achieve the peaceful denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

The country is working to attach a nuclear warhead to such missiles, a capability that leader Kim Jong Un says he needs to prevent a US attack on North Korea.

Dunford was in Tokyo to meet with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe as well as top defense officials.

The United States will take immediate and specific action to take down a North Korean missile should it be fired at any of its allies, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said Thursday.

Japan hosts more than 50,000 US military personnel and is in range of North Korean missiles.

Mattis: US will stop North's missile attacks
Moon has repeatedly urged North Korea not to "cross the red line" but had not previously elaborated what that would constitute. Dunford and his Japanese counterpart Katsutoshi Kawano agreed to work together to strengthen missile defense systems.

"We are working together very closely, and we're examining every option that we have to contain the (North Korean) regime", Hagerty said.

In the event of North Korea launching a missile that is feared to fly over Japan or fall within Japanese territory, on land or at sea, the J-Alert system will transmit information to areas along the path of the missile.

North Korea responded by threatening to aim a missile at the American territory Guam, though later said the operation was suspended.

During his visit to China, Dunford said peace with North Korea is a "possibility", but warned the U.S. has "credible, viable military options" for dealing with the errant regime.

Joseph Dunford told Abe at the meeting that the bilateral alliance between the two countries remained solid.

"In light of this serious situation we face", the secretary said, "we are accelerating implementation of the 2015 guidelines for the U.S. -Japan defense cooperation and continue to realign U.S. forces in Japan and Guam".

Experts named the city with the best living conditions
Vienna in Austria stood second and Canadian cities of Vancouver , Toronto and Calgary took the next three positions. The city ranked lowest on the list is Damascus, Syria, due to the hardship caused by ongoing civil war.

President Donald Trump's threats against North Korea are a means to "remind the regime" in Pyongyang what is at stake if it starts a war it can not win, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Thursday.

Dr Nishihara said Japan must first "have a much stronger retaliatory capability, in case of the opponent's strong retaliation".

North Korea's missile launches "must stop immediately", Tillerson said. Seoul is the capital of South Korea.

"We call on North Korea to choose a better path than one of provocations and threats".

Fan Changlong, a vice chairman of China's powerful Central Military Commission, told Dunford that China believed the only effective way to resolve the issue was through talks. The talks focused on North Korea and other regional security issues.

CEOs Cut Ties With Trump
Trump on Saturday initially denounced what he called "this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides". Trump took to Twitter to blast Merck CEO Kenneth Frasier and the company for their drug prices.
