Counter protesters of the Boston rally marched from Roxbury to the Boston Common when the event began, in order to stand against white supremacy.

The large gathering ended as scheduled by 2 p.m. local time without any major incidents.

The organizers of the rally posted on Facebook on August 15 that their movement was "dedicated to peaceful rallies" and was "in no way affiliated with the Charlottesville rally on August 12".

As many as 40,000 people descended on Boston Common Saturday, some to support the Boston Free Speech rally and others to condemn it.

The actions came one week after white nationalists and other right-wing groups clashed with counterprotesters in Charlottesville, Virginia, over the city's plan to remove a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee from a city park.

More than 500 police officers were on hand - some undercover - and Commissioner William Evans greeted the counter-protesters today telling them violence would not be tolerated.

Trump said at a Trump Tower press conference in New York, "You had a group on one side that was bad and you had a group on the other side that was also very violent".

The initial tweet sparked immediate backlash, as commentators called the "anti-police agitators" remark a "blatant smear", and highlighted the fact that Trump continues to attack anti-racist demonstrations while defending neo-Nazis.

Hundreds of police officers will hit the streets of Boston on Saturday to deter violence at a "Free Speech" rally with right-wing speakers a week after a woman was killed at a Virginia white-supremacist protest.

But the mayor pointed out that some of those invited to speak "spew hate".

Minor scuffles were seen in the crowd between activists and between police and activists, but the protests remained largely peaceful.

August 21 will be the longest solar Eclipse in history
But total solar eclipses aren't just rare to specific locations on Earth; they're also pretty rare in the universe in general. Eclipses have spawned mythologies in cultures such as that of the ancient Egyptians who worshiped the sun as deity Amun-Ra.

The organizers of Free speech rally earlier distanced themselves from any white supremacist and Neo-Nazi group or ideology. Around 20 participants were escorted out of the park by Boston police to the cheers of counter-demonstrators.
