De Blasio wins Democratic mayoral primary amid meager voter turnout

On the Republican side, state Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis, of Staten Island, is running unopposed.

The other primary candidates were police accountability activist Bob Gangi, entrepreneur Mike Tolkin and Brooklyn community board member Richard Bashner. In 2005, 18% of registered active Democrats turned out in a primary won by Fernando Ferrer, who earned 40% of the vote.

Albanese was trailing behind with 17.84 percent, or 25,634 votes.
