According to APD, no more incidents have been reported related to the storm.

Powerful winds from Hurricane Irma battered Florida with forecasters warning of risky strom surges that will lead to massive flooding across the U.S. state, media reports said.

As Irma moves inland, more than 45 million people will face tropical storm conditions.

But Irma's maximum sustained winds have dropped to around 70 miles per hour (110 km/h), and the storm is expected to weaken further and become a tropical depression - with maximum sustained winds of 38 miles per hour (62 km/h) or less - by Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 12), the National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported. Klotzbach says Irma's energy metric tops all of the first eight named storms, including Harvey, of the 2017 season - combined.

More than 30,000 customers are without power in the Columbus area, and Georgia Power has advised local emergency personnel that they will not be sending out crews to fix damaged lines while the weather is poor.

FEMA Chief Brock Long said he believed the Keys and Collier County in southwest Florida took the brunt of the storm.

This represents over 59% of all power company accounts in the state, the Florida Division of Emergency Management said.

However, the wind field will remain strong, before improving later this afternoon into the night.

Once the storm leaves, the company must wait until conditions are safe for damage assessment teams to enter the field and begin the restoration process, followed by fix crews, which could take several days, if not weeks.

"Thank God a lot of people evacuated the Keys", said Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Joe Sanchez, according to the Miami Herald. But Shiveley said the water never crested over the city's barriers.

- At least 26 deaths have been blamed on Irma in the Caribbean islands, where it hit before barreling toward Florida. "You can't survive these storm surges", he said.

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster on Sunday night issued a mandatory evacuation for some barrier islands, CNN reported.
