Desmond Tutu has become the second Nobel Peace Prize victor to criticise fellow laureate Aung San Suu Kyi about her silence over the treatment of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.

Refugees from Myanmar this week described walking through the jungles for days to reach the border and cross into Bangladesh, where they have built flimsy structures with bamboo and plastic sheeting. Whole villages have been burned down. The country has always been marred by a brutal military dictatorship, a violent and ongoing civil war (that has nothing to do with the Rohingya), and its people are still learning to build peace and overcome mistrust.

The United Nations says that almost 164,000 Rohingya have fled to Bangladesh over the past two weeks to escape a massive security sweep and alleged atrocities by the country's security forces and Buddhist mobs.

Congressional aides said they do not expect renewed economic sanctions on Myanmar because lawmakers remain wary of taking steps that might set back democratic and economic reforms.

The UN Security Council will meet on Wednesday behind closed doors for the second time since the latest crisis erupted.

Theresa May wins second Brexit battle in parliament
Another source said Britain asked for the delay to let May set out London's latest views and plans on Brexit before more negotiations.

United States Holocaust Memorial Museum set up by the U.S. government had awarded Suu Kyi with its prestigious Elie Wiesel Award for her stance against hatred, genocide and abuse of human dignity.

While there is plenty of blame to place on the military for the current situation in Rakhine state, Suu Kyi is the only one seeking to walk a tightrope, between providing a positive way forward for the Rohingya on the one hand, while not providing the military the pretext for ending Myanmar's fledgling democracy on the other.

Farmaner told The Times that although Prince Charles might be sensitive to the plight of the Rohingyas, considering his longstanding links to charities working in Myanmar, the British government had "looked the other way" as the crisis escalated.

In recent days Suu Kyi has faced calls to revoke her 1991 Nobel Peace Prize over her government's violent crackdown on the Rohingya, which the United Nations human rights chief called "a textbook example of ethnic cleansing". "We are all responsible and that is why we are here", she said, while expressing her wish to see everyone do whatever they can to help.

Malala Yousafzai, the youngest ever peace prize victor, said on Monday "the world is waiting" for Suu Kyi to act.

The U.N. high commissioner for Refugees said the estimated number of Rohingya who fled to Bangladesh since violence erupted in Myanmar on August 25 had risen from 164,000 on Thursday, after aid workers found big groups in border areas.

Harvey is coming off a win Thursday over Cincinnati at Citi Field when he tossed five innings and allowed two runs on five hits. The Mets cut into the Cubs lead with Nori Aoki scoring on Travis d'Arnaud's sacrifice fly to right in the fifth.

Myanmar has rejected a ceasefire declared by Muslim Rohingya militants to provide the humanitarian aid to thousands of displaced people in the violence-racked Rakhine.

"Maybe a few religious fanatics play a role, but a government is doing this". According to Bangladesh, around 3,000 Rohingya have been killed in the crackdown.

Aung San Suu Kyi has fully embraced the recommendations, and has begun creating these mechanisms for implementation. She also holds the position of foreign minister.

The spokesman did not explain the decision but said the country's Vice President Henry Van Thio would attend the summit, which runs through next week.

"Over the last several years, I have repeatedly condemned this tragic and shameful treatment", Ms Yousafzai said in a statement posted on Twitter on Sunday. The Nobel citation praised her "non-violent struggle for democracy and human rights", which the prize committee considered "one of the most extraordinary examples of civil courage in Asia in recent decades". A meeting of Rakhine's local ruling party, Arakan National Party (ANP), and the Tatmadaw's commander-in-chief immediately followed, where the former reiterated its demand for boosted security measures.

We should not fritter away our strategic stakes in Myanmar by joining a selective, hypocritical chorus on humanitarian issues by those who prefer to agitate only such as are low-priced for them. But she needs the domestic political capital, the courage of her own humanitarian convictions, and critically, the active cooperation of her own military to continue to succeed.
