Sources said that Japan has informally agreed to it. India is pushing Japan to take 10 per cent equity in the high-speed rail Shinkansen project between Ahmedabad and Mumbai in order to ensure that it has a long-term stake in the project, and not just be an equipment supplier. He is a prominent Indian resident of Japan for 21 years.

A total of 12 stations have been proposed for the Bullet Train route, including Mumbai, Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad and Sabarmati.

The ground-breaking ceremony for the ambitious Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Project, commonly referred to as the bullet train project, would be performed on 14 September by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe, the minister said.

A High Speed Rail Training Institute is being created at Vadodara, Gujarat, and will be opened by 2020 to train local workers to operate and maintain the high-speed line. This train will have the capacity to accommodate 750 people. In addition, 300 young officials of Indian Railways are being trained in Japan to give them exposure in high-Speed Track Technology.
