YouTube star PewDiePie has issued an apology after he was heard uttering the n-word during a recent online broadcast.

As the largest video games streamer, with 57 million subscribers on YouTube, he has to be held to a higher standard and as a role model for all those that watch him, many of whom will be young and impressionable.

Describing his comments as "something that I said in the heat of the moment" and "the worst word that I could possibly think of", Kjellberg added that "it sort of slipped out". Today, he's now released a follow up video called "My Response" in which he apologises for using racist language. "I owe it to my audience and to myself to do better than this, because I know I'm better than this". I'm not going to make any excuses for why it did, because there are no excuses for it. I know I can't keep messing up like this. Kjellberg is no stranger to controversy, uploading videos with anti-Semitic jokes and later blaming the news media for the resulting outrage.

Hurricane Irma's winds expected to arrive in Bradenton by late afternoon
The company said it has assembled the largest pre-storm workforce in US history, with more than 16,000 people ready to respond. Florida Power & Light, the state's major electricity provider, has almost 20,000 workers deployed around the state.

Whether or not this is a honest response and something that the YouTuber will actually learn from is yet to be seen. And he said, referring to the popularity of the video itself, "Furthermore, we're complicit: I'm sure we've made money off of the 5.7M views that video has and that's something for us to think about". Fingers crossed he actually has learnt from his mistakes.

Most notably, head developer of Firewatch, Sean Vanaman publicly announced that a DMCA takedown was filed over all of the studio's content on PewDiePie's channel, saying "He's worse than a closeted racist: he's a propagator of despicable garbage that does real damage to the culture around this industry".

Kjellberg went on, "It's not that I think I can say or do whatever I want and get away with it".

'I once saw a friend beat another friend with an Nintendo 64 controller because he kept using the same cheap move with Pikachu in Super Smash Bros, ' wrote Emmanuel Maiberg, 'but I've never seen a friend hurl a racist slur at another player just because they were angry'.

We've seen PewDiePie apology videos before. "If there's anything I've learned about the media from being a public figure, it's how they blatantly misrepresent people for their own personal gain, even viciously attack people just to further themselves", he said. "I really want to improve myself and better myself, not just for me but for anyone that looks up to me".
