The Aussie actress had sued Bauer Media, which also publishes Cosmopolitan and TV Week, after Woman's Day and other magazines published a series of stories alleging Wilson had lied about her age and family history.

Her lawyers had argued she should get more than $7 million because Wilson had missed out on major Hollywood film roles following what was described as a "malicious, deliberate take-down".

In awarding the damages, Supreme Court Justice John Dixon described the extent of the defamation as "unprecedented in this country" because of the articles' global reach.
