Bulgaria Jean Claude Juncker to Lay Out Vision for Tighter Post Brexit EU

In a long and feisty debate on the Second Reading of the EU Withdrawal Bill, the opposition insisted that a Labour amendment was necessary to stop Brexit turning into a unsafe undemocratic power grab in which Theresa May and her ministers could reinterpret decades of human rights and EU legislation as they see fit.

Jeremy Lefroy is supporting a number of amendments to the EU Withdrawal Bill put forward by former Attorney General, Dominic Grieve, and other MPs.

The Bill will transpose relevant European Union law on to the United Kingdom statute book to ensure there are no gaps in legislation when Brexit is finalised.

Despite winning the vote on second reading, May is now likely to face pressure to amend the bill before it enters United Kingdom law.

Her government has warned that voting against the Bill would result in the United Kingdom suffering a "chaotic" European Union exit.

OECD report: Estonia spends less than average on teachers, students
Across the OECD , people with lower or no qualifications were more likely to be unemployed than those with tertiary education. The government spent almost five percent of GDP on school and tertiary education in 2014, close to the OECD average .

Prime Minister Theresa May said the measure provides "certainty and clarity" ahead of the divorce.

The shadow Brexit secretary, Keir Starmer, who led a vote against the bill because he argued it was so weak, called it a "deeply disappointing result".

Politicians in the United Kingdom are expected to vote on the first key piece of Brexit legislation at Westminster later tonight.

The Brexit bill will formally end Britain's EU membership and overturn the supremacy of European law in the country.

The bill passed its second reading in Parliament and will now go to a committee stage for line-by-line scrutiny.

It's now moving to the committee stage, where each part of the bill and the more than 150 proposed changes, will be debated. Ministers sought to reassure MPs by considering calls for safeguards over their use of new powers.

Vincent Kompany injured again, could miss Liverpool match on Saturday
But the Brazilian playmaker could be in contention to feature after failing to secure a move to Barcelona in the transfer window. It was bad news for Liverpool this week as right-back Nathaniel Clyne was ruled out for "several months" with a back injury.

To vote down the bill, Labour would need to convince EU supporters in the Conservatives to side with them, but some more vocal pro-EU Conservative lawmakers have said they will vote with the government.

In a vote after midnight, lawmakers backed the prime minister's repeal bill after her government promised to discuss critics' concerns before they have to vote again.

"This Withdrawal Bill would give unregulated power to the cabinet and allow it to sidestep parliamentary scrutiny altogether".

The vote was seen as the first parliamentary test of the two-year Brexit timetable.

This first Commons win is a welcome boost for the Prime Minister after Britain endured a hard start to negotiations with Brussels, highlighted by last week's frosty encounter between Davis and his European counterpart, Michel Barnier.

It should have been a technical piece of legislation, but this government is trying to use it for a cynical power grab.
