Sinead O'Connor has opened up about her hard upbringing in an interview on the United States chat show, Dr Phil.

The troubled singer, 50, is speaking for the first time since her most recent breakdown this past month, and claims that her mental health issues began as a result of the physical and sexual abuse she was forced to endure in her younger years, the Daily Mail reports.

In typical Sinéad O'Connor fashion, she was out straight and honest during the TV interview. "Every day of our lives, she ran a torture chamber", she said. "She was a person who took delight in hurting you", she said.

When the star was 19 years old, her mother died in a auto crash.

Jennifer Lawrence: Darren Aronofsky is brilliant
The Oscar victor continued her appraisal of her new lover and went on to explain just why she thinks he's so great: "His point of view, his artistic uniqueness".

In a teaser clip for the forthcoming episode, she opens up about her relationship with her late mother Marie O'Connor, who died in a auto crash when Sinead was 19.

She added in reference to the Facebook video: "I thought it would maybe be better if they saw how I'm feeling - they'd relate to it".

"I was told to leave the hospital two days after the surgery with Tylenol and no hormone replacement and no guidance as to what might happen to me. I was flung into surgical menopause and I became suicidal, I was a basket case", she says.

According to Sinead, her mother not only physically abused her but sexually abused her as well. I rang one of the fathers of my children, who happened to be five miles away from me in NY at the time with my ten-year-old child and wouldn't bring him to see me'. "It's not easy for families of mentally ill people", she continued. She signed "Magda Davitt", explaining, "Sinead O'Connor's gone, I don't want to be that person anymore".

Another source said Britain asked for the delay to let May set out London's latest views and plans on Brexit before more negotiations.

Sinead has dealt with suicidal thoughts and multiple attempts and has been diagnosed and misdiagnosed with several mental illnesses including PTSD and bipolar disorder. "She used to make me say over and over "I am nothing. If I wasn't posting this, my kids and family wouldn't ever find out".

Dr. Phil asked Sinead O'Connor on Tuesday's episode of his show. "Although I'm not sure I believe in such things", the Nothing Compares 2 U hitmaker told Dr. Phil.

"I got to be the same size as her, and she stopped hitting me", she recalled.

The Irish singer-songwriter, best known for her cover of Prince's "Nothing Compares 2 U", elsewhere speaks of how she's "fed up of being defined as the insane person". Too many musicians are dying. "I didn't want to be sold on my sexuality". "I didn't talk to her for about nine months". She asked for this to be posted knowing you are concerned for her.
