South Korea's military said Sunday that North Korea is believed to have conducted its sixth nuclear test after it detected a strong quake, hours after Pyongyang claimed that its leader has inspected a hydrogen bomb meant for a new intercontinental ballistic missile.

President Donald Trump said Wednesday that military action is not his "first choice" to address North Korea's ongoing moves to develop its nuclear and ballistic missile programs, hours after he spoke by phone with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

"It would be great if something else could be worked out", he said, while adding that if the USA is left with no choice but to attack, "It will be a very sad day for North Korea". The ministry said Seoul and Washington made a decision to speed up the deployment in view of Pyongyang provocations in recent weeks including two intercontinental ballistic missile launches and its sixth nuclear test.

This has attracted the criticism of the global community, most parts believing that Pyongyang adopted this provocative behavior on goal.

The UN in early August imposed new sanctions on Pyongyang with a sweeping ban on exports of coal, iron, lead, and seafood that could eliminate $1 billion in annual revenues.

Earlier this month North Korea tested what USA officials now believe was a thermonuclear, or hydrogen, bomb - which could have a much larger impact than a conventional nuclear weapon.
