Brazil's attorney general has charged President Michel Temer with obstruction of justice and leading a criminal organization.

Temer's lawyer said in a statement sent to the Supreme Court that the allegations against the president are "contaminated by untruths and malicious distortions".

But in the decision to green-light the raids, Supreme Court justice Luiz Fux said there was "clear evidence" that Mr Maggi also tried to obstruct justice by paying bribes to a former state government secretary.

Wesley Batista is accused of unfairly profiting from trades in shares of JBS and US dollars in April and May, before company stock and the Brazilian currency plunged following revelations Joesley Wesley and Brazilian President Michel Temer discussed bribes.

Police in Brazil arrested Wesley Batista, CEO of JBS SA, for allegedly using insider trading to profit from a plea agreement he made with federal prosecutors. Barring further unexpected developments, most congressional leaders and analysts say he is likely to survive the vote, like he did on separate charges of bribe-taking in August.

Temer is the latest and one of the most high-profile people in Brazil to be caught up in a mammoth probe into inflated public works contracts and millions of dollars in kickbacks to politicians. It was the kind of large-scale graft network similar to those uncovered in the last three years at other major Brazilian companies. Two-thirds of deputies must agree to suspend Temer to be suspended until the end of the trial.

Where and How to Watch Pakistan vs World XI 2nd T20I
Batting first, a solid 1st wicket partnership between Babar Azam and Ahmed Shehzad steered Pakistan to 174 for 6 in 20 overs. Acknowledging World XI's efforts, Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed said, "We have to give credit to the World XI ".

The arrest of Wesley Batista in Sao Paulo followed the detention Sunday of his brother, Joesley, former chairman of the company that is the world's largest meatpacker.

That recording and the Batistas' testimony became key weapons in efforts by chief prosecutor Rodrigo Janot to put Temer behind bars. He said his clients had cooperated with authorities at every step and suggested they were being targeted by some within the government for having reached plea bargains. His brother, Joesley Batista, has been in custody since he turned himself in Sunday following questions about his plea testimony in an ongoing corruption case.

And it is these accusations which have now led to the arrest of Wesley Batista. Temer denies the allegations.
