Trump denies 'deal' with Democrats on young immigrants, DACA

Evelin Hernandez 27 cries as she holds a sign reading

Evelin Hernandez 27 cries as she holds a sign reading"My dreams matter. Don't shatter them" during a protest in front of the Hennepin County Jail in Minneapolis after President Donald Trump announced his plans to rescind DACA on Tuesday Sept. 5

Speaking in an AP Newsmaker interview, Ryan said he believes the president "made the right call" when he announced that he would give Congress six months to figure out what to do with former President Barack Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program before dismantling it. DACA has given almost 800,000 young people protection from deportation and the right to work legally in the country.

After he landed in Florida, he declared repeatedly, "If we don't have a wall, we're doing nothing". In a statement, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi insist they agreed, with Trump, to "enshrine the protections of DACA into law quickly" and to work out a package on border security - excluding Trump's planned wall along the US southern border.

Trump has come under fire from both sides of the decision, including from critics among his base that say if the DACA provisions are allowed to stay, that would be tantamount to allowing amnesty for the young people brought illegally into the United States.

Pelosi said Thursday that Democrats thought they had an agreement to incorporate the DREAM Act into the immigration package, with the border wall dealt with separately.

Democrats have been adamant that they will not accept the wall in exchange for permanent protections for DACA recipients, but Pelosi indicated Tuesday she would be open to new border security measures of some kind.

"If you listen to the president's comments this morning.it is clear that what Leader Pelosi and I put out last night was exactly accurate", said Schumer.

"More and more we're trying to work things out together", Trump explained Wednesday, calling the development a "positive thing" for both parties.

But Breitbart was already labeling Trump "Amnesty Don".

No deal was made last night on DACA.

Ryan, meanwhile, said he's been having conversations with members to come up with a compromise that is likely to include border security enhancements.

Azam added 122 for the second wicket with Ahmed Shehzad (39) as Pakistan built on the loss of opener Fakhar Zaman for eight. Du Plessis said it would be a "quick turnaround, I don't think I've ever played two T20s in two days".

The House's foremost immigration hard-liner, GOP Rep. Steve King of Iowa, made clear that he was not happy. "No promise is credible". "The president was talking with Democratic leaders to get their perspectives", he told reporters on Capitol Hill.

That protection for young people brought to the country illegally by their parents was temporary and required renewal every two years, but it did not grant lawful status.

Trump announced last week that his administration was rescinding the program, but gave Congress six months to come up with a legislative fix. A person briefed on the meeting, who spoke on condition anonymity about the private get-together, said the deal specifies bipartisan legislation that would provide eventual citizenship for the young immigrants. The program, started by former President Barack Obama in 2012, provided amnesty to undocumented immigrants who came to the USA as children.
