Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday rushed to visit Marshal of the Indian Air Force (IAF) Arjan Singh at Research and Referral Hospital here, who is critically ill and hospitalised. He posted this tweet: "India mourns the unfortunate demise of Marshal of the Indian Air Force Arjan Singh".

Famous for being the first and the only officer of "Five Star" rank, Arjan Singh was born on 15 April 1919, in Lyalpur of Punjab (now in Pakistan).

In 2015, at the age of 96, the nation watched as the Marshal of the IAF reached the Palam Airport on July 28 where the body of former President and India's missile man A.P.J.Abdul Kalam was brought. "We remember his outstanding service to the nation", he tweeted.
