Trump warns North Korea of 'overwhelming' options

Both national security adviser H.R. McMaster and US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley stressed during a White House briefing on the United Nations General Assembly that President Donald Trump did have military options to stop North Korea.

McMaster said North Korea's recent launch demonstrates that it is one of the world's most urgent and risky security problems, he added. "And at that point there is not a whole lot the security council is going to be able to do from here when you have cut 90% of the trade and 30% of the oil", she said. "There's no military solution here, they got us".

South Korea's Defense Ministry says the country's military conducted a live-fire ballistic missile drill in response to the North's launch.

On Thursday, North Korea launched a missile over Japan for the second time in less than a month.

As president-elect, he called the United Nations.

The fight doesn't quite have the hype of Mayweather-McGregor, but it has a great chance to be the fight of the year. Lara was forced to withdraw after injuring his back Tuesday, and Rafael Rivera was quickly inserted in his place.

The worry is less about a full-blown attack from the North on its neighbours (an unlikely possibility given that Kim is not suicidal) and more the prospect of low-level provocations - for example, the shelling by the North of contested border territories near the Northern Limit Line between North and South Korea, or use of cyber attacks to disrupt USA and allied command and control operations. More specifically, China and Russian Federation want the U.S.to accept North Korea's demand to cease joint military exercises with South Korea to bring the Kim regime to the negotiating table.

And while the first two may be familiar in USA post-war diplomacy, the third is a loaded term in global relations, hinting at Trump's "America First" agenda.

Reuters quotes the Union of Concerned Scientists stating North Korea's latest test proves its Hwasong-14 missile has the range to reach Guam but doubted it has the accuracy to hit the relatively small island target at such long range. And he comes out with US being very strong in the end.

"If North Korea continues to walk down this path, it has no bright future".

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson also called for "new measures" against North Korea and said, "These continued provocations only deepen North Korea's diplomatic and economic isolation".

At the beginning of this year, North Korea's Kim announced plans to develop an intercontinental ballistic missile that could strike the US mainland.

"We call on all nations to take new measures against the Kim [Jong Un] regime", the top USA diplomat said.

The North Korean state-run newspaper Rodong Sinmun on Friday said in an editorial, "If the USA continues to walk on the current course, we will take stronger actions for our self-defense".

"For those who have said, and been commenting about a lack of a military option, there is a military option", McMaster said. Now, however, with North Korea perilously close to being able to directly threaten USA cities with nuclear obliteration, the worry for some is that Pyongyang could blackmail Washington into qualifying or limiting its support for its allies in the region.
