2018 Range Rover Sport launches with plug-in hybrid option

The plug-in hybrid variant of the new Range Rover Sport, called the P400e, is the first electrified model to be released since Jaguar Land Rover announced last month that it will have an electrified version of every model on sale from 2020. Powered by a 2.0-liter Ingenium four-cylinder gasoline engine and an electric motor, it has a combined system output of 398 horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque.

Utilizing a permanent all-wheel-drive system, the vehicle accelerates from zero to 60mph in 6.3 seconds and has a top speed of 137mph.

For the first time, Australian customers will experience zero-emission near-silent on and off-road luxury without compromising any off-road capability.

The Sport interior's biggest upgrade, though, is nearly certain to be Touch Pro Duo, the same twin 10-inch screen infotainment system that I experienced in August in the new 2018 Range Rover Velar.

The Range Rover Sport has been given a facelift for 2018, but the big news is not just the impressively updated Sport, but the arrival of a new plug-in hybrid Range Rover Sport PHEV and a more powerful Sport SVR too. The theoretical driving range in pure electric mode is 50km - the new minimum range many carmakers are eyeing today to satisfy China, the world's biggest auto market that's giving a focus on vehicles with some kind of electrification. Known as the Range Rover Sport 400e, the eco-minded SUV features a plug-in hybrid powertrain that is created to improve fuel economy and lower Carbon dioxide emissions.

The new vehicle gets a 296bhp petrol engine teamed up with a 114bhp electric motor, for a combined power rating of 398bhp and 472lb ft torque, and will cost from £70,800-£84,400 depending on the trim level you go for. The interior has also been reworked and the main feature is a pair of 10-inch touchscreens for the infotainment and vehicle control system that help create a more simplistic design. In this mode, a Save function prevents the battery charge from dropping below the selected level and the Predictive Energy Optimisation function requires you to enter a destination into the navigation.
