Massive gas explosion at petrol station in Ghana sends residents fleeing

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said the Government will soon come out with a clear policy to prevent disasters such as the one that happened at the Atomic Junction in Accra on Saturday evening.

Ghana National Fire Service spokesperson Billy Anaglate said earlier that two of the victims died at the scene of the incident and the third in hospital.

"Some people said there were flames in the skies, l looked and saw the flames and was convinced something bad had happened", said James Appiah, a resident of North Legon, about a kilometre (half a mile) from the explosion.

The government imposed an global flight ban and other punitive measures on the Kurdish region, which voted overwhelmingly in favor of statehood.

Local media reported that a number of cars had been burned out as the fire spread. "And the ambulance services assisted us to move all the injured persons to a number of medical facilities round".
