Windows 10 Mobile's Fate Is Now Sealed

Joe Belfiore, a Corporate Vice President in the Operating Systems Group at Microsoft, on Sunday revealed that the company is no longer putting its energy into building new features or hardware for the operating system.

Joe Belfiore, a Microsoft vice-president and long-time Windows Phone evangelist, broke the news in a series of tweets. Joe Belfiore admitted that Microsoft isn't working on any software or hardware update.

Microsoft's Windows phone platform was dead from past few months, but company never admitted officially. However, the company will continue to support the platform for bug fixes and security updates.

Corker quickly issued his own response. "Someone obviously missed their shift this morning", he quipped on Twitter . The two held a private meeting last month where Mr Trump pushed him to run, according to the Associated Press.

Microsoft had also tried positioning its Windows 10 Mobile powered handsets to be an extension of its PCs, giving the phones some sort of a mini-PC like feel.

According to netmarketshare, a website that tracks the market share of operating systems, Windows Phone now has mere 0.87% market share. Many companies have stopped developing and withdrawn their apps from Windows Store during the past year.

The company has also switched to Android. Microsoft dropped support for Windows Phone 8.1 earlier this year.

Microsoft had put the brakes on its phone business a year ago. But the number of users was too low for most of the companies invest. They follow a decision by Microsoft over the summer to end support for Windows Phone 8.1, the final operating system tied to the Windows Phone. The Windows Phone operating system used Microsoft's Metro UI and offered a smattering of live tiles for its homescreen.

Belfiore also said that this slide in market share made it hard for Microsoft to maintain the support of developers, which has furthered its decline.
