Officers are investigating a shooting and a crash near 12th Street and Washington Avenue in Miami Beach Sunday evening, police said.

Other officers then shot the woman, WTVJ reported.

Oates said "one or more rounds" hit the woman, who later died at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Miami-Dade police detectives were investigating the incident.

The BMW, its driver fatally wounded, then crashed into a white SUV in the middle of Washington and 12th.

The officer who was struck by the vehicle lost consciousness and was taken to an area hospital, but is expected to be OK. He was in stable condition and alert late Sunday, Oates said.

A pair of tourists from Philly witnessed the initial crash from their dinner at the Sugar Factory patio along Ocean Drive.

First responders pulled her from the mangled vehicle and rushed her to a nearby hospital.

Two women visiting from Philadelphia told the Miami Herald that they were eating at a restaurant on Ocean Drive when they saw a auto smack into the back of a truck.
