Great divide between White Britons & ethnic minorities laid bare in nationwide audit

Theresa May challenged by black student over stop and search

The data shows that Black people were over three times more likely to be arrested than White people, and over six times as likely to be stopped and searched.

"As Prime Minister, knowing full well the damage that would be caused by the Conservative cuts, Theresa May has done nothing but exacerbate the problem".

Fourteen months ago Theresa May commissioned what was to be the most ambitious survey of racial inequality in Britain, and specifically of ethnic minorities' experience of British public services.

Under the plans, 20 hotspots for the Department for Work and Pensions will be highlighted to help people from ethnic minorities get jobs.

"The Government must tackle the significant disparities confirmed by the audit in order to address the entrenched inequality that is so prevalent in our society".

Another worrying sign is that white teenagers are much more likely to take up smoking - nearly a tenth of white or mixed-race 15-year-olds smoke regularly while only one in 40 black or Asian teens do.

To launch the new website, thought to be the first official resource of its kind in the world, Mrs May will host a discussion around the Cabinet table involving "key stakeholders".

But when cases come to court, white suspects are more likely to be convicted than those from other racial groups - suggesting that more non-whites are being charged with crimes which they didn't do.

May said that "people who have lived with discrimination don't need a government audit to make them aware of the scale of the challenge". "But this audit means that for society as a whole -for government, for our public services - there is nowhere to hide". These issues are now out in the open.

The "Racial Disparity Audit" was ordered in 2016 by Prime Minister Theresa May.
