Note found in Las Vegas gunman's hotel room had calculations on where to shoot to 'maximise death toll'

A gunman who shot dead 58 concertgoers in Las Vegas had shot a security guard six minutes before he opened fire - not as police arrived after the attack, as originally thought.

Fifty-eight people died and almost 500 were injured when 64-year-old Stephen Paddock opened fire on an outdoor country music festival-an act that investigators are still at a loss to explain-before taking his own life.

McKendry was parked in front of the Mandalay Bay hotel Sunday night when Paddock started shooting from his 32nd-floor room.

The sheriff revealed that Paddock unloaded a barrage of 200 shots at Campos alone - striking him in the leg at 9:59 p.m. His brother, Eric Paddock, who lives in east Orange County, told a reporter for the Las Vegas Review-Journal that he traveled to Las Vegas to speak with investigators this weekend. Vegas police say they are still unsure of exactly what caused Paddock, who killed himself before the SWAT team entered the room, to stop shooting at the crowd.

Lisa Rhoads-Shook, whose brother-in-law was inside the Mandalay Bay when the shooting broke out, said she wanted to attend the unity service to be part of the conversation about change.

She said she found it hard to believe that he could be capable of carrying out the October 1 mass shooting on the Las Vegas Strip, which left 59 dead, including Paddock, and at least 480 others injured.

He told reporters Monday that Paddock shot Campos at 9:59 p.m. local time on October 1, roughly six minutes before turning his gun on the crowd at the Route 91 Harvest music festival.

Charles "Sid" Heal, a retired Los Angeles County sheriff's commander and tactical expert, said the new timeline "changes the whole perspective of the shooting".

As investigators look at numerous different angles to find the motive behind the Las Vegas massacre, new details about the gunman have emerged. "As far as we know, Steve was perfectly fine".

There is no indication anyone other than Paddock fired on the crowd, Lombardo said, adding investigators are talking to family members and the girlfriend of the gunman.

Police Negotiating With Man On Roof After Woman's Body Found In Chatswood
Police have said they can not remove the victim's body and secure the crime scene while the man is still on the awning. The woman's body was discovered around 6.30am in a street near Chatswood train station.

Sgt Bitsko said: 'Initially, I was thinking, "This is a booby trap, it's going to explode". "He tried to make people happy; he tried to make people care and I don't know what happened to him".

"This individual purposely hid his actions leading up to this event", Sheriff Lombardo said.

Rukmini Callimachi, a correspondent for The New York Times that has covered the terror group since 2014, took to social media to explain that it would be irresponsible to rule out the connection between ISIS and the Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock. The sheriff said he believed Paddock was drilling in order to create a place to put either a camera or a rifle.

The sheriff said, "We believe he made a decision to take the lives he did and he had a very purposeful plan he carried out". While he stated that he did not have mental health issues he said he was prescribed the drug "for anxiousness" by a physician to whom he had "good access".

"This week we witnessed one of the worst tragedies in American history", Aldean said before starting the song.
