Pakistan Election Commission issues non-bailable arrest warrant against Imran Khan

Pakistan's Election Commission (ECP) today issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Tehreek-i-Insaf chief Imran Khan for his failure to appear before it in a contempt of court case.

Moreover, the PTI chief has already challenged the ECP's show-cause notice in the Islamabad High Court (IHC), where a three-judge bench, which adjourned hearings till September 20 without granting a stay order against the ECP's show-cause notice or arrest warrant.

The money was later sent to Pakistan through supposedly illegal channels, which the popular politician then allegedly concealed in his annual audit reports submitted to the commission.

Talking to reporters, PTI leader Naeemul Haq said that the issuance of the arrest warrant of Imran Khan is a condemnable act, adding that the decision will be challenged in the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

While speaking to media on Thursday, the Pakistan Peoples Party leader remarked that Imran should avoid the embarrassment of being taken to the court by police officials.

The ECP has ordered that the PTI chairman be arrested and brought to the next hearing of the case filed by PTI dissident and one of the party's founding members, Akbar S. Babar, on October 26.

Khan had initially raised objections over ECP's jurisdiction to initiate contempt proceedings against him.
