Economy blows past expectations, creates 35000 jobs in October

Toronto's unemployment rate fell from 6.1 per cent in September to 5.8 per cent in October.

The Canadian economy added more jobs than expected in October as wages posted their biggest gain in 18 months, a sign that labor market slack could be tightening despite strong employment growth over the past year.

Statistics Canada reported Friday 4,500 full-time jobs were lost in the province during the month, which was offset by a gain in part-time positions.

There were 18,400 new jobs created in the construction industry, while the number of jobs in information, culture and recreation swelled by 15,300.

Employment for youth - an area that Poloz has given particular emphasis - increased by 17,500 with the participation rate for that group up by 1 percentage point to 63.7 percent.

Victoria B.C. continues to enjoy the lowest unemployment rate in Canada at 3.8%, while St. John's Newfoundland has the highest at 8.8%.

The job gains - which more than doubled economists' forecasts - suggest the economy may be poised to end the year with a bang.

The only downside to his remarkable season has been always losing to Federer, who leads the ATP Tour with seven titles this year. Marin Cilic and Grigor Dimitrov, who also secured their places in ATP Finals, both came through their opening matches in Paris.

The Bank of Canada said last week various measures of wage growth remained below their historical averages. It added a recent decline in the jobless rate to a postcrisis low "likely overstates the degree of improvement" in the jobs market.

Only 2,700 people didn't work, down from 3,300 when compared to the same time previous year.

The country has now produced job gains for 11 consecutive months - the longest streak in more than a decade.

Ohio State, Penn State Losses Hurt Big Ten's Playoff Chances
And it did so with a wacky "swinging gate" play after the Hawkeyes special teams unit shifted from a usual field goal formation. And then just like they'd done all game, the Buckeyes answered with a 44-yard touchdown pass from Barrett to Johnnie Dixon.
