Twitter Verification on Indefinite Hold After Criticism Over White Supremacist Verification

Twitter Has a White-Nationalist Verification Problem

Twitter removed his verification badge on Thursday. But it also clarified that verification is not meant to be an endorsement.

"Verification was meant to authenticate identity & voice but it is interpreted as an endorsement or an indicator of importance", the company tweeted from its support account today. How exactly Twitter plans to clear up the confusion it created around verification remains to be seen.

Putin says Olympic disqualifications are sign of USA meddling in Russia's elections
The U.S. government and its European partners immediately imposed sanctions on Russian officials considered to be involved in Ukraine.

Most people who are verified by Twitter include celebrities, politicians, journalists and public figures. As a holder of the blue check, I can assure you plebeians that the privileges accorded us verified humans are vast: Not only can I filter you non-notables out of my mentions, lets just say I get followed by a lot of Moldovan DJs. Twitter was historically opaque about its section process for verified accounts, but previous year opened up applications for those seeking verified status.

The news follows backlash after Twitter assigned the blue and white check mark to white supremacist Jason Kessler.

Justice Department Wants AT&T to Sell CNN, Turner or DirecTV
Without an agreement, the Justice Department would sue to block the merger - as soon as next week, one of the people said. Time Warner comprises 16.0% of Beach Point Capital Management LP's holdings, making the stock its 2nd largest position.

More recently, an applications process was opened up by which accounts could state why they might justify verification, expanding massively the range of people who could potentially be verified. "Communists have killed 94 million". Actress Rose McGowan, who spoke out against Harvey Weinstein's alleged acts of sexual harassment, had her account suspended for 12 hours because she reportedly tweeted a private telephone number, which is against the company's policies. "Looks like it was payback time", he wrote, according to reports.

Ho said that they have to fix the issue, and are "pausing until we do". And for Twitter, the Kessler situation is yet another setback in its attempt to win back user trust after a decade of inaction. People can apply for verification by submitting basic identifying information to Twitter. Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey apologized for the situation, adding "We should've communicated faster on this (yesterday)" and noting that "we realized some time ago the system is broken and needs to be reconsidered". The company did not offer a timeline on when these changes may go into effect.
