A man rammed a auto into three Chinese students near the French city of Toulouse today, injuring one of them seriously, police sources said.

The driver attempted to drive off but was stopped by police and arrested straight away.

Couilleau said the driver claimed he acted deliberately and was arrested.

A French police source told AFP that the attack was deliberate.

Authorities say the victims were rushed to nearby hospitals, but none of them are suffering from life threatening injuries.

The Mayor of Toulouse, Jean-Luc Moudenc took to Twitter and said: "Very shocked by the aggression against the students in Blagnac".

French police clarified however, that the 28-year-old driver is not on a security watch-list and after an investigation the public prosecutor said there are no indications that the auto attack was an act of terrorism. "We offer all our support to them and their loved ones".

"The man responsible was known to police but had no history of terrorism".
