Pakistan Govt To Arrange Meeting Of Kulbhushan Jadhav With Wife ...

It is not clear what prompted Islamabad to allow Jadhav's wife to meet him in Pakistan, the Express Tribune reported.

Indian Government sources pointed out that even now consular access has not been granted despite several requests and that Islamabad is offering such a meeting between Jadhav and his wife only on "humanitarian grounds".

A note verbale to this effect was "sent to the Indian High Commission in Islamabad" by the Pakistani foreign ministry.

Kulbhushan Jadhav, former Indian Naval officer facing death sentence in Pakistan, will be allowed to meet his wife, Islamabad announced on Friday.

In a big win for Jhadav, his family and all the Indian, ICJ stayed the execution of alleged spy till it reached its final verdict.

Jadhav was apprehended by Pakistan law enforcement agencies on March 3, 2016 after he reportedly crossed over to Pakistan illegally. The world court had, on May 18, restrained Pakistan from executing the death sentence.

The Pakistani tribunal in April sentenced Jadhav to death on charges of spying and act of terrorism.

India had requested a Pakistani visa for Jadhav's mother, Avantika, who wanted to meet her son in Pakistan.

After Jadhav was awarded capital punishment by a Pakistani military court in April this year, India challenged the verdict in the top United Nations court, accusing Islamabad of violating the Vienna Convention by failing to provide Jadhav with consular access which it said was in breach of worldwide human rights laws.

Pakistan had earlier said that Jadhav purportedly "confessed" to being a spy forRAW in a video release. By an order of June 13, 2017, the President of the ICJ had fixed September 13, 2017 and December 13, 2017 as the respective time limits for the filing of a memorial by India and a counter-memorial by Pakistan.

India, however, maintains that Jadhav was kidnapped from Iran where he had business interests after retiring from the Indian Navy.
