Former USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar in court in June

Olympian Aly Raisman won't be silenced as she is now publicly opening up about being sexually assaulted by her USA Gymnastics doctor, Larry Nassar.

Nassar already faces 22 counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and could receive a sentence of life in prison. Raisman said that she spoke to FBI investigators after the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, but the Indianapolis Star later reported that USA Gymnastics didn't report sexual abuse allegations until the athlete or a parent did so.

Raisman says a lot of people have asked her why Nassar's accusers didn't speak up sooner.

"Why are we looking at why didn't the girls speak up (earlier)?" she said in the interview. Raisman, who says she's "angry" and "really upset" about what happened to her and others, originally addressed in August the many accusations against Nassar, but at the time she didn't get into her own history with Nassar.

"What did USA Gymnastics do, and Larry Nassar do, to manipulate these girls so much that they are so afraid to speak up?"

USA Gymnastics told 60 Minutes it now requires "mandatory reporting" for any suspicions of sexual abuse.

Raisman, 23, is the latest member of the U.S. national team and the biggest United States gymnastics star to reveal being molested by Nassar, who is facing more than 20 counts of sexual assault.

Nassar was involved with USA Gymnastics for nearly 30 years as a trainer and national medical coordinator, which allowed him to work with the country's most elite gymnast in four separate Olympic games, according to ESPN.

The 23-year-old, a two-time world team champion, revealed that she spoken to the Federal Bureau of Investigation regarding the claims of sexual abuse levelled at Nassar after she led the American team at Rio 2016. "We are grateful to the athletes that brought their concerns about Dr. Nassar to USA Gymnastics". He eventually was arrested on child pornography charges and pleaded guilty.

It is also reported he still faces 33 charges of criminal sexual conduct in MI. In the past, Nassar and his attorneys have defended the intra-vaginal and intra-rectal procedures as part of accepted medical practice.

Ever since Maroney, 21, spoke out against him, over 140 women have come forward to sue him and his former employer, Michigan State University.

Raisman hopes to transform the culture within the sport along with changes in leadership.

"I am angry", Raisman told "60 Minutes". I can't ... every time I look at them, every time I see them smiling, I just think ...
