In the USA state of Oklahoma, a local resident was sentenced to 10 years in prison for marriage with their own biological mother, reports the Tulsa World.

The same charges were brought against her mother, 44-year-old Patricia Spann, but the woman refused to plead guilty.

The Stephens County District Court sentenced Misty Spann to 10 years probation, according to Tulsa World.

Patricia has pleaded not guilty and PEOPLE was unable to reach her attorney.

Patricia and Misty's marriage was also annulled last month at the behest of Misty, who said she was induced "by fraud to enter the marriage".

Previously, Patricia Spann had married her biological son in 2008, but never reported it.

Patricia Spann told investigators that she lost custody of her three children, but reconnected with them in 2014.

Patricia has pleaded not guilty to incest, and will appear in court for trial at a later date.

Patricia said she did the research herself and thought the marriage would be ok as she no longer as the same name from Misty's birth certificate.

Cody said he, Patricia and his siblings spent some time in Texas where Patricia and Jody became close. In fact, they "hit it off" so well that they married each other.

"My grandmother looked at my brother and told him that was his mom", Cody recalled. That marriage was annulled in 2010, records show.

"My sister was manipulated and scared into this".

She wrote a book about the lust she felt for the adult son she had given up for adoption 26 years earlier.
