US President Donald Trump has nominated a former pharmaceutical executive to serve as his next health secretary.

Happy to announce, I am nominating Alex Azar to be the next HHS Secretary. Trump confirmed Azar's nomination on Twitter on Monday morning, writing, "He will be a star for better healthcare and lower drug prices!"

In making the pick, Trump turned to an industry's he's rebuked.

Trump has been a sharp critic of the industry.

Idea Cellular, Vodafone India to sell towers business to ATC Telecom
In 2014-15, ICIS reported total income of Rs238 crore, according to filings with the Registrar of Companies. Idea will sell its entire stake in ICISL, and Vodafone India will sell a business undertaking to ATC TIPL.

Azar worked at Eli Lilly for a decade, including five years as president of its U.S.unt. He's seen as an expert on government health care regulation.

Before his time at Lilly, Azar served as deputy secretary at HHS under President George W. Bush. The drugmaker has drawn criticism from patient advocacy groups for price increases to one of its biggest products: insulin.

"He's precise, highly motivated, he has high standards for performance for himself and for other people", said Mike Leavitt, who was HHS secretary when Azar was deputy. In Maine, residents voted to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act.

Top Democrats in Congress were skeptical, but also said they hoped Azar would bring a shift from an ideological hard line on "Obamacare". Chuck Schumer of NY, the Democratic leader.

Right-wing nationalists march on Poland's independence day
Independence day is taken seriously in Poland, which was wiped off the map for over 120 years prior to 1918. Polish nationalists carry a banner translating to "we want God" during a march in Warsaw.

Azar has served on the board of directors of the Biotechnology Innovation Organization, a drug industry lobby, for several years, and his nomination would raise questions about the administration's seriousness about lowering drug prices.

There are signs that the law is gaining popular support despite the repeal efforts. "The drug companies, frankly, are getting away with murder", the president said at a Cabinet meeting this fall. Prices are "out of control". President Trump said after his election and before his inauguration that he wants the government to work to lower drug prices and that he wants the Medicare program to use its buying power to negotiate better prices.

Professionally, Azar has another set of skills that may be valuable to the president. He previously worked in the Health and Human Services agency during the George W. Bush administration.
