If you wanted to send an image at a decent resolution before now, you would have had to use a photo link or send in an email, as most messaging service heavily compress your images. Here's an example, provided by Messenger, of the difference 4k resolution makes.

Despite all of its know-how, Facebook has for a long time confined users of Messenger to sending low quality photos through the app, presumably in the name of speeding up things.

And this is yet another exclusive feature as, despite Facebook owning rival service WhatsApp, the United States technology firm says payments will only be available via Messenger. Facebook also said that it the photos will still be sent as quickly as they were sent before.

According to Facebook Newsroom, "To send and share photos at 4K resolution, first update your Messenger app to make sure you have the latest version". Well, Facebook has posted a series of photos highlighting this aspect. Photography combined with connectivity means that its easy to share these photos with our friends and family and that's often through Facebook's Messenger.

Facebook Messenger has gotten a bunch of upgrades over the past year, and now you can add the ability to send higher-resolution photos to the list.

The new update is already rolling out to Messenger users in various markets across the globe, starting with North America, the UK, France, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and Japan.
