Marking another milestone after the inaugural liftoff previous year, the Soyuz rocket carrying the Meteor weather satellite and other equipment took off at 2:41 pm (0541 GMT) from far eastern Russian Federation.

As it is widely known, Roscosmos have had number of problems with finishing launch sites for Angara at their Vostochny Cosmodrome.

Contact with 19 satellites, including Russia's Earth observation Meteor-M 2.1, has been lost following a launch of a Soyuz rocket from Vostochny Cosmodrome, according to Roscosmos.

Clients from Canada, the United States, Japan, Germany, Sweden and Norway had equipment on the launch.

Schumer, Pelosi Cancel Shutdown Negotiations with Trump After 'Blatantly Inaccurate' Tweet
If Trump does not sign a funding bill by December 8, the federal government will enter into a partial shutdown. "Meeting with "Chuck and Nancy" today about keeping government open and working", he said in a tweet Tuesday.

But the state space agency Roscosmos later said although the upper stage had reached interim orbit, the satellite then failed to make contact with ground control "because of its absence in the final orbit".

"Information is now being analysed".

The Roscosmos space agency reported that today's liftoff proceeded as planned, using a Soyuz-2-1b variant of Russia's workhorse rocket.

Smaller satellites were also on board.

Senate panel advances tax bill as McConnell tries to solve 'Rubik's cube'
With no major legislative achievement, Trump is pushing hard for the GOP to deliver a tax cut bill to him by the end of the year. Tax rates for many individuals and families would also be cut temporarily before rising back to their previous levels in 2025.

An unnamed Russian source earlier said that there had been a two-hour communication silence from the orbiting craft.

The Meteor was meant to detach from the rocket carrying it Tuesday morning, soon after it launched, but it failed to do so, according to Russian news service Interface.

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said yesterday that the spaceport would "modernise" Russia's space industry. The first manned mission to the International Space Station (ISS) to be launched from Vostochny is not scheduled before 2023.
