The Boston Globe's Jim McBride is reporting that the New England Patriots will place tight end Martellus Bennett on injured reserve, ending his season. His injured shoulder requires surgery.

The Packers waived Bennett with a failure to disclose an injury designation on November 8, setting off a firestorm of back-and-forth allegations from Bennett and the team.

Bennett's injuries look to be too much to recover from this season, so he will go on IR. Despite being sidelined while with the Packers due to the aforementioned shoulder trouble, Bennett immediately took the field upon being claimed off waivers by the Patriots. The next week, he recovered a Rex Burkhead fumble on the opening drive of a win over the Raiders and added two catches for 24 yards. A hamstring injury for Bennett was disclosed on the team's participation report after that game, and he attempted to play through that as well.

A key player for the Pats during their Super Bowl LI run a year ago, Bennett signed in free agency with the Packers, but lasted barely half the season in Green Bay. He started in seven games in Green Bay before a rocky divorce with the club. Getting production out of Allen certainly helps the Patriots, as they like to use two tight ends sets.

Speaking to his National Action Network group in NY on Saturday, Sharpton said a person's sentence must fit the violation. Mill's legal team has asked for his release and for the judge who sentenced him to be recused from the case.

If Bennett was actually serious about retirement, it's possible he's played his last game in the NFL. Upon his return to the team, Bennett has collected all six of his targets from Tom Brady for a total of 53 yards.

Bennett mulled over his playing future beyond this season.
