The top court while rejecting the ban plea pulled up the chief ministers and lawmakers for their statements on the film.

On Tuesday, the supreme court has dismissed a fresh plea which was related to the release of the movie titled "Padmavati" outside India. The release of the film was deferred indefinitely from the original date of December 1 until the film is finally granted a certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

A bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra dismissed the fresh petition that had sought an order to restrain the producers of the movie from releasing it overseas.

Police stepped in after a court order that was made in an effort to end the protest because of its disruption to daily life. The group is from the mainstream Barelvi sect of Sunni Islam, which has the largest Muslim following in Pakistan .

The movie would be released overseas only after it is cleared by the CBFC, Harish Salve, the counsel for the film producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali, told the court. SC also chastised the government officials and Chief Ministers for making derogatory comments on the film without watching it.

Sharma is seeking direction to delete certain objectionable scenes from the movie.

The irked did not impose Mr. Sharma by keeping in view the fact that has been practicing by the lawyer of the apex court.

A number of religious groups and political leaders have come forward and opposed the release of "Padmavati". Padmavati is based on the ruthless Alauddin Khilji, played by Ranveer Singh, and his attempt to capture the attractive Rani Padmini of Chittor played by Deepika Padukone.

Several state governments, including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, have said they will not allow the release of the film Pdmavati as of now.
