Now, after some further digging, it seems that 2.7 million of those affected were Uber customers from the UK.

Ferguson said that the ride-sharing company violated state law by not informing consumers that their information had been stolen in the 2015 breach.

It was reported recently that Uber discovered that it suffered a major data breach in 2016.

Washington state Attorney General Bob Ferguson is suing Uber for failing to disclose a massive data breach that left the personal information of 57 million people exposed.

Terrorist attack foiled in Australia
A man has been arrested by counter-terrorism police for allegedly plotting a New Year's Eve terror attack in Melbourne . Police arrested the man - a Muslim born to Somali parents - after he attempted to purchase an automatic rifle.

Several states, including Missouri, Massachusetts and NY, have opened investigations, and the city of Chicago sued Uber on Tuesday for failing to notify affected residents.

The firm has said it has a total of five million active users and 50,000 drivers in the UK.

Under Washington law, the breach of names, phone numbers and addresses does not require notification, Ferguson said, but the driver's license numbers do. "There is no excuse for keeping this information from consumers".

The Data Privacy Act penalizes the concealment of security breaches involving sensitive information with imprisonment ranging from 18 months to five years and a fine of not less than PHP500,000. Under such a theory, he argues that Uber should face a penalty of several millions of dollars.

SC dismisses plea to stop 'Padmavati' release outside India
SC also chastised the government officials and Chief Ministers for making derogatory comments on the film without watching it. The top court while rejecting the ban plea pulled up the chief ministers and lawmakers for their statements on the film.

Uber has been forced to quit several countries, including Denmark and Hungary, and faced regulatory battles in multiple USA states and around the world. NY fined the company US$20,000 a year ago over a 2014 data breach.

The breach saw details of 57 million accounts compromised, and Uber has been heavily criticised for not admitting sooner that its systems had been hacked, and for paying off those responsible.

"We have seen no evidence of fraud or misuse tied to the incident".

"Defendant's conduct is made more egregious by the fact that Uber paid the hackers to delete the personal information and keep quiet about the breach", Ferguson wrote in the lawsuit, filed in King County Superior Court.

Ben Gordon arrested 'again' over money brawl
He was also arrested on October 21 after an incident at the business Gordon owns in Mount Vernon, New York. Per the police report, Gordon confronted the manager in regards to his security deposit.
